Musical by Hossein Hadisi based on the original script by Solmaz Naraghi
Friday, March 8, 2024 - 18:00 Djam Lecture Theatre, SOAS, University of London

To celebrate the International Women's Day and the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement, SEVEN LABOURS OF RASTA is a musical storytelling experience centred on the journey of Rasta, paralleling Rustam from the Shahnameh. Rasta undertakes seven labors, symbolically represented by contemporary urban traffic signs, aiming to break free from oppressive frameworks and find liberation.

Beginning with a prophetic dream, Rasta encounters a mysterious booklet akin to a Highway code titled "No Way Code," inviting her onto a transformative path. Her labours, reminiscent of Rustam's, involve battles against inner demons rather than physical foes:

Khán I: Conquering Fear

Khán II: Overcoming Sadness

Khán III: Defying Stereotypes

Khán IV: Navigating Desolation

Khán V: Embracing Love

Khán VI: Confronting Mortality

Khán VII: Defeating Inner Darkness

As Rasta tears through the veil of illusion, she realises her captivity within the darkness and emerges to inspire others towards freedom. The narrative unfolds against a backdrop of urban life, where traffic signs serve as both guides and symbolic motifs, enhancing the immersive experience of the performance.
